The Story

Founded in 1968, Joya de Nicaragua is the oldest premium cigar manufacturer in Nicaragua — born when Cuban-trained growers brought their craft to the volcanic soils of Estelí, Condega and Jalapa, and gave the country its first cigar marketed to the world.

By 1970 its Clásico had so impressed Washington that it became the official cigar of the Nixon White House — the smoke gifted to visiting dignitaries through the Cuban-embargo years, and known to this day as “The White House Cigar.”

Through revolution and the destruction of its factory in 1978 — rebuilt by its own workers, who laboured for months without pay to keep the craft alive — Joya endured. More than fifty years on, it remains Nicaragua's most storied cigar house.
